Proverbs 16:18

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. What is cockiness? It’s really over confidence mixed with an overblown belief that you are better than someone else or that your opinions are better than the other person. Pride is not a bad thing, if it is focused on who deserves the credit. God blessed you to be smart, to be athletic or to be any other “thing” you happen to be! The Bible says in everything, glorify God!

Master It!

Genesis 4:6-7

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

Cain was the first known murderer in the world. The source of the murder was shortcutting, jealousy and resentment. First, Abel gave an offering of his best animals as a sacrifice to God. Cain gave his offering, but it wasn’t part of his best crop. So God looked on Abel’s sacrifice with favor, but not Cain’s. Instead of being accountable, as a result of Cain’s shortcut, which he surely rationalized away with some form of “God likes Abel better,” Cain got mad, jealous of his brother and down-cast. In this passage, God tried to convince Cain to straighten up and fly right, but Cain made a different choice and killed his brother Abel!! Dumb move, eh?

God says it clearly, “If you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door,” but if you simply take a moment to THINK, then master the ability to MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION, you can avoid the pain, agony and problems that happen as a result of sinful actions. God knows temptation and sinful acts are not easy to overcome, but He says “Master them!” He is encouraging you to know you can make the right decisions more often than the bad ones. Believe me, He knows you cannot be perfect, but He expects you to do your best to master your decisions by making the right call; and when you don’t, learn from the error, ask forgiveness and make a better call next time.

Listen to God if you want to be accepted as a leader. “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?”

Just do it!!

A personal message …

“These devotions were written to my four children, Christian, Mike, Allison and Alex. By the kids allowing these to be shared publically, our hope is that the devotions will make a positive and eternal difference in the lives of other young people as they mature. Enjoy. Rick Isaacson”
