2 Corinthians 10:12 “No Comparison”
“We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”
Did you realize the world constantly drives us to compare ourselves to others? But, if you think about this, comparing ourselves to others just leads to negative thoughts. If you feel you are somehow better when you compare yourself, it leads to thoughts of superiority and arrogance. Neither of those are thoughts God would support! On the other hand, if you feel you are somehow less than someone else, that can lead to thoughts of inferiority and envy. Certainly, God would not support beating ourselves up for shallow comparisons.
The devil wants comparison because it leads to negative thoughts. Bad thoughts normally lead to bad actions, and if the devil can keep your focus there, you will likely develop the habit of being judgmental or envious, rather than remembering all the great promises of God.
God makes it clear, you are perfect because He made you exactly as you are. And since God is perfect in every way, and God made you in His image, that means He chose to create you just like this! Why? We don’t know for certain, but we know it’s true. Once you realize God made you just as you are, and God allowed you to have the experiences you’ve had for a specific purpose, then you can be completely at ease knowing God is running the show. No nervous or anxious feelings. Just an assurance God is in control and is using every experience you have to make you strong and prepare you for great things ahead. God says you’re perfect! Hold your head high with the assurance that you’re a 100% certified perfect human, forgiven, saved and blessed to enjoy this day!!
Whenever you catch yourself having thoughts of comparing yourself to someone else, stop!! God made them, and God made you. The heck with what the world thinks; God’s opinion is the only one that matters. He says that everyone is equal in God’s eyes, so who are we to compare and judge? Instead, engage with others with the confidence that both of you are God’s handiwork. Treat everyone with respect. What comes around goes around, and you want that to be positive stuff!
If a person acts judgmental toward you, say a little prayer for them that they will grow up in the future. You just keep being a good person focused on your values, and God will take care of the rest!!
A personal message...
“These devotions were written to my four children, Christian, Mike, Allison and Alex. By the kids allowing these to be shared publicly, our hope is that the devotions will make a positive and eternal difference in the lives of other young people as they mature. Enjoy. Rick Isaacson”
