Ephesians 2:8-9 “Acknowledge God’s Gift”
For it is by GRACE you have been saved, through FAITH—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
You can’t work your way to heaven, no way, not happening. God makes it abundantly clear. The ONLY reason we can have eternal life is because He gave us Grace. We all are screw-up sinners who deserve to burn in hell. If we did just one thing wrong, bam, we’re toast. But God gave His Son as a sacrifice in place of our screw-ups, His Grace. As a result, we are saved and promised heaven.
Why did God do this? He’s a loving God that gave people a choice; simply acknowledge God’s gift and you’re saved. But you have a choice, don’t believe and acknowledge His Grace, and you are not saved. We have to make that one simple free-will choice. If we don’t, we will burn with the worst kind of pain eternally, like sitting directly in a bonfire pit...Not a cool way to spend eternity, huh?
Some people will act all pious, like they are earning their way to heaven with all the good things they do. Remember, you’re saved because of what God did for us. We should act right and do good works for God. We are doing it out of respect and appreciation for God, not because it earns us anything! God says don’t boast. His grace is His gift, not because of our works.
So how do you know for sure you’re going to heaven? Acknowledge God’s gift of His Son dying on the cross and say a prayer of thanks. Then, God tells us to simply have faith and we’ll be saved.
Sometimes it’s hard to understand God and faith. To make it easier, I always remember this: It’s rationally impossible that we humans showed up from nothing, or from a big bang? Where did the bang come from? Once we realize there had to be something miraculous for us to be here, it makes it easier to trust there is a God. And if God exists, then we should study God’s Word to understand God. God is God, and He teaches the concept that we aren’t going to understand everything until we get to heaven. The more you study and do what God says, the less you have any problems with faith. Once you realize the blessings of doing it God’s way, you feel sorry for those that haven’t tried the ultimate way to live life.
You’re going to heaven! That’s an eternity of being perfect, happy and in the presence of God. There’s something to celebrate today!!
A personal message...
“These devotions were written to my four children, Christian, Mike, Allison and Alex. By the kids allowing these to be shared publicly, our hope is that the devotions will make a positive and eternal difference in the lives of other young people as they mature. Enjoy. Rick Isaacson”
