Psalms 9:9-10 “Oppression and Trouble?”

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Do you ever feel oppressed? Maybe feel in trouble? In a world of sin, it’s only a matter of “when” oppression and trouble will come knocking, not “if” it will show up. Because you know the name of God, you realize He has never forsaken anyone who knows His name and trusts Him. That makes you STRONG and RESILIENT!

How does God help you? He helps by allowing you to have perspective. Sometimes, when we don’t have perspective, we think one slight or one trouble is the end of the world, especially junior high and high school age kids. They can totally allow one incident to blow things out of proportion, like the whole world is fixated on them. At that age, we get the feeling the whole world is focused on us and our one mistake. The reality is people’s focus on another person’s error is like “gawking at a car wreck.” It’s about as long as it takes to slow down and gawk, then the vast majority goes immediately back to their self-absorbed world. They really don’t care about our situation. So, remember to have some perspective and get back on course to focusing on the good things you can do and be today. The chalkboard of your mess-ups in life is erased by God’s grace because He NEVER forsakes you.

Oppression or trouble? Seek God first and give it to Him! He wants you to want His help!! He’ll be your refuge when you take the initial “hit,” when that fight or flight emotion emerges. He’ll strengthen you to have perspective and handle “it,” as you realize it’s just a challenge to be solved. He’ll carry you when you need to identify solutions that are sensible and right. He’ll help you get back on track with perspective, a focus on solutions so the mistakes don’t happen in the future. And finally, He erases your record and shines up your heart!

Sorry evil one! You can’t get God’s kid down with your “stinkin’ thinkin’ - woe is me pity party.” I gave it to God, and He said you don’t get to mess with me. God and I are about solutions, so get lost! God and I have good to do today, and your tweaks don’t even bother me anymore!!!

A personal message...

“These devotions were written to my four children, Christian, Mike, Allison and Alex. By the kids allowing these to be shared publicly, our hope is that the devotions will make a positive and eternal difference in the lives of other young people as they mature. Enjoy. Rick Isaacson”
